New Delhi, India (August 26, 2014): As was expected, Sheila Dikshit governor of the Kerala has resigned. There were reports that should could be trasferred to Mizoram. She is the second governor who has preffered to resign insteat of being got trasferred to Mizoram. Two days back Maharashtra governor Kateekal Sankaranarayanan had resigned after he was reportedly trasferred to Mizoram.
However, there were speculations of her resignations since she met yesterday with Home Minister Rajnath Singh. Though, Sheila Dikshit had rejected the reports of her resignation claiming as a rumour.
Sheila Dikshit, who has been Chief Minister of Delhi for fifteen years from 1998 to 2013, was appointed Kerala governor by UPA government in March 2014 just before the model code of conduct came into force for the Lok Sabha polls.
Narendra Modi led BJP government has been replacing UPA appointed governors with their own choices. As of now seven governors have resigned in the last few months, in response to the Centre’s pressure, however, Uttrakhand governor Aziz Qureshi has already refused to adhere to center’s pressure to quit the post. Aziz Qureshi has moved to Supreme court of India against Modi government on this issue.
