Chandigarh: Former Punjab police cat Gurmeet Pinky has exposed illegal killings by Ludhiana police during tenure of Sumedh Saini as SSP of Ludhiana. The video is uploaded on YouTube by journalist Kanwar Sandhu that he was witness to at least 50 fake encounters.
In his six-part video, Gurmeet Pinky has given graphic details of killings committed by senior police officers who rose many ranks via such acts.
He has revealed how the police used to use cats to identify and kill Sikh youth and dispose off their bodies as unidentified. He alleged he witnessed at least 50 such killings where the bodies were disposed of as unidentified.
Gurmeet Pinky has also named a top police officer, who is still in service, of having received Rs50 lakh through a middleman for reinstating him in May this year as Head Constable after he was released from jail, notes The Tribune.
In an interview, recorded on different days by Kanwar Sandhu, Gurmeet Pinky disclosed that how many Sikh youth, including Prof. Rajinder Pal Singh Bulara and Bhai Sher Singh Shera were killed by the Ludhiana police.
He said that then SSP Sumedh Saini himself shot a person named Pinka Mohali. He said that the police had tried to administer poison to Pinka Mohali but when he survived that attempt SSP Sumedh Saini himself killed Pinka. He said that Pinka Mohali was in list of “non-hardcore militants”. He said that dead body of Pinka Mohali was thrown into Bakhra Kanal.
Gurmeet Pinky has also mentioned names of various other police officers who were involved in killing Sikh youth in fake encounters.
The government and the state police have so far not reacted to Gurmeet Pinky’s claims, notes The Tribune.
Human rights activist Navkiran Singh has sought a CBI inquiry into Pinky’s revelations.
“The man was a police ‘cat’. He knows much and he has come on record which should be noted. A probe should be ordered on his revelations. It concerns the death of many innocent youths. Their families deserve answers and the truth,” he said.
