Kashmir/Srinagar (September 12, 2013): According to a news reported by a Kashmir based journalist Mir Iqbal: “[f]ormer Minister, Ghulam Hassan Khan (on September 12, 2013), accused CRPF forces for pelting stones on Sikh houses in violence-torn Shopian town with an attempt to give a new twist to the protests over the killings of five civilians in Shopian”.
“He refuted the claims that some locals in Shopian pelted stones on Sikh houses in Shopian town adding that in presence of heavy deployment of forces, no one would dare to come out of house in middle of the night to pelt stones”.
“It was CRPF personals who pelted stones on Sikh houses to divert the attention of people and save their skin,” he said, adding that some miscreants with strong backing from few vested interested politicians can have pelted stones to disturb communal harmony in the town.
Khan lambasted the present collation government for maintaining silence over the incident and added that politicians should either come forward to support people of Shopian in this grave situation or they should resign on moral grounds.
He urged politicians not to politicize the “innocent” killings in the town. Khan is representing Pradesh Congress from Shopian constituency and urged on his own party ministers to resign on moral grounds as a mark of protest against the “brutal” killings. “The government is sleeping, their eyes are shut, and they are deaf and dumb. They don’t have any moral authority to claim representatives of people,” he said adding if Pradesh Congress ministers are not people friendly, they should resign.
Khan also criticized police for fabricating “innocent” youth as militants and demanded that the unnamed fourth person killed in the incident should be identified. “Non-local was a Bihar resident working in a nearby card-board factory near CRPF camp but police labeled him as a militant to justify killings,” he said.
Khan demanded that CRPF located near Government Degree College, Gagren Shopian be removed from there and those responsible for innocent killings be punished.
Earlier, All Parties Sikh Coordination Committee Chairman, Jagmohan Singh Raina had said that some miscreants resorted to stone pelting and harassed the minority community in Shopian, the town which has been on the boil since Saturday when four persons were killed after being fired upon by CRPF.
The Sikh members had brought the matter into the notice of Hurriyat Conference Leader, Syed Ali Shah Geelani, who assured them every kind of support for their safety.
Pertinently, the Sikh delegation also visited the families of slain youth and grieved the death of these youth in CRPF firing.
