Fresh firing by Indian forces in Kashmir: 5 killed, more than 30 injurred

Srinagar: As per media reports five civilians were killed and more than 30 were injured on Tuesday (August 16) after Indian security forces fired on protesters in two separate incidents in south and central Kashmir taking the death toll to 65 in the valley.

As per reports four people were killed by Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel when they opened fire on protesters at Aripanthan area of Beerwah in central Budgam district. At least 15 people were also injured in the firing.

In another incident, a man succumbed to a bullet injury in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district where 16 others were injured in firing by Indian security forces.

Notably the Indian security forces killed two persons in Kashmir on August 15, the day when Indian PM talked about atrocities by Pakistan in Balochistan region.

Sixteen-year-old Yasir Sheikh from Batmaloo area in Srinagar was killed when forces opened fire on protesters in the area on Monday. As per media reports medical superintendent of Srinagar’s SMHS hospital, Dr Nazir Choudhary, said that the Class 10 student was brought to the hospital with a bullet injury.

Riyaz Ahmad,18, from Tangmarg also succumbed to injuries sustained during a clash last week at Srinagar’s SKIMS hospital in the morning.

Batamaloo remained extremely tense on Monday evening as Sheikh’s body was brought back to his home.
