Gau Raksha Dal chief Satish Kumar booked in Rajpura police

Chandigarh: The Rajpura police has reportedly registered an FIR against Gau Raksha Dal chief Satish Kumar. The FIR is registered under Sections 382 (Theft after preparation made for causing death, hurt or restraint in order to the committing of the theft), 384 (Extortion), 342 (Wrongful Confinement), 341 (Wrongful Restraint), 323 (Voluntarily causing hurt), 148 (Rioting, armed with deadly weapon) and 149 (unlawful assembly). Among others named in the FIR are Annu and Gurpreet alias Happy.

“We are checking the authenticity of the video footage that is with us,” The Tribune (TT) quotes Patiala SSP Gurmeet Chauhan.

“The video shows Gau Raksha Dal members brutally thrashing people in the name of cow protection, he said. The organisation had gained notoriety for posting online videos online of its vigilante-style attacks on trucks “carrying cattle for slaughter”, the SSP reportedly added.

Various reports in the state media shows that socalled “gau-rakshaks” were running extortion racket. Progressive Daily Farmers Association, Punjab has also levelled serious allegations of excesses against so-called gau-raksha dals.
