Amritsar: The Central government of India has reportedly clarified that there was no proposal to get Darbar Sahib (Amritsar) declared as World Heritage. There were speculations that the Central government has been ‘conspiring’ to take over control of Darbar Sahib (Amritsar) after getting UNESCO’s World Heritage site tag for the Sikh shrine.
“No such proposal has been initiated by the government,” the Ministry of Culture said in a written communication to former MP Tarlochan Singh who recently approached the Centre for a clarification on the matter.

As per information the UNESCO’s World Heritage Committee will convene its 39th session in Germany between June 28 and July 8.
A news report by The Tribune (TT) quotes, Sanjiv Mittal, Joint Secretary, in charge, world heritage site proposals, saying: “The [Darbar Sahib] and 46 other […] monuments [in Indian subcontinent] have been on UNESCO’s tentative list for world heritage sites for a long time. The government has made no proposal to seek the inscription of the [Darbar Sahib] as a world heritage site.” (Text in “[ ]” denotes edits).
