Green Bay (Wis.) Man charged with hate crime for setting up Sikh owned shop on fire

Green Bay, Wisconsin (March 15, 2013): As per media reports a fifty three years old Green Bay man is charged with a hate crime for setting fire at a convenience store owned by a Sikh.

The Police reportedly arrested the accused on March 5, 2013 after he walked into the Dollar Land store, dumped a liquid on the register and set it on fire after a store employee turned him down for a date.

James Parrish (53) is reportedly charged for arson with a hate crime modification, first-degree recklessly endangering safety and carrying a concealed weapon.

The Sikh American Legal Defense and Education Fund (SALDEF) has praised authorities for treating the arson as a hate crime.

It is notable that on August 5, 2012 a white supremacist and neo-nazi Wade M. Page had opened the gunfire inside the Sikh Gurudwara Sahib at Oak Creek, Milwaukee (Wis.) and fatally shot six Sikh worshipers before killing himself.
