Gurbaksh Singh Khalsa and others update on progress related to cases for permanent release of Sikh political prisoners

Mohali, Punjab (January 12, 2013): The Bandi Singhs Rihai Committee, which was formed to assist Bhai Gurbaksh Singh Khalsa during his hunger strike seeking release of 6 Sikh political prisoners, recently addressed media to explain the progress in these cases since the conclusion of 45 days long hunger strike protest of Gurbaksh Singh Khalsa.

Committee members Advocate Amar Singh Chahal, Bhai Harpal Singh Cheema, Bhai Satnam Singh Paunta Sahib, S. Gurnam Singh Sidhu, Bibi Kulbir Kaur Dhami, Bibi Kashmir Kaur and Bhai R. P. Singh, accompanied by Gurbaksh Singh Khalsa informed that applications have been moved before appropriate authorities seeking permanent release of Gurmeet Singh, Shamsher Singh and Lakhwinder Singh Lakha. Trio were released on parole of 28 days last month, after their case was highlighted by Gurbaksh Singh Khalsa during his hunger strike protest.

The committee members explained that there has been some technical hurdle in the case of Wariam Singh, who is confined in Bans Barely jail of Uttar Pradesh, but this case is close to successful conclusion. Wariam Singh would be permanently released from Jail, Committee members added.

As per information the Punjab CM Parkash Singh Badal had assured the committee members in a meeting that he would convince Gujrat government to withdraw it’s appeal from the Supreme Court of India against Punjab and Haryana High Court’s order directing grant of permanent release to Lal Singh. The committee members said that now it was time for CM Badal to keep his promise in this case.

According to information the process to secure Jail transfer of Gurdeep Singh Khaira has been initiated. He is currently confined in Karnatka’s Central Jail, Gurbarga. After securing his jail transfer to Punjab his case shall be pursued for parole and permanent release.
