Ambala, Haryana: Gurbaksh Singh Khasla, who has been on hunger strike at Gurdwara Lakhnaur Sahib (Ambala) since November 14, has clarified that he is seeking release of only seven of those Sikh political prisoners who have completed the terms of their sentences.
The clarification came from Gurpreet Singh Guri Hans – press secretary of Gurbaksh Singh Khalsa, after a Punjabi vernacular published details of 16 Sikh political prisoners who were sentenced to ‘imprisonment for life’ and who were not being granted premature release even after completing minimum mandatory terms of their sentences.
Gurpreet Singh Guri Hans said that Gurbaksh Singh Khalsa is seeking release of seven Sikh political prisoners only. These seven prisoners include Gurmeet Singh, Shamsher Singh, Lakhwinder Singh (Burail Jail, Chandigarh), Lal Singh (Nabha Jail, Punjab), Wariam Singh (Bans Bareli Jail, UP), Gurdeep Singh Khaira (Gulbarga Jail, Karnataka) and Prof. Devender Pal Singh Bhullar (Tihar Jail).
Gurpreet Singh Guri Hans said that all memorandums/ letters by Gurbaksh Singh Khalsa mentioned only these seven Sikh prisoners.
“We want all Sikh political prisoners to be released but it is clear that the focus of our current morcha is on these seven cases only” he added.
