Gurbaksh Singh Khalsa seeks release of Sikh political prisoners

Chandigarh: Bhai Gurbaksh Singh Khalsa has renewed his pledge to secure the release of Sikh political prisoners who have completed their prison terms. Gurbaksh Singh Khalsa reportedly submitted a memorandums to Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal and Governor Shivraj Patil on Wednesday (Oct. 01) seeking their intervention in the matter. Though this memorandum he urged the Governor and the CM to issue release orders of seven Sikh prisoners.

Gurbaksh Singh stated in his letter that he went on a hunger strike for 44 days in the months of November and December 2013 to seek permanent release of six Sikh political prisoners – Gurmeet Singh, Lakhwinder Singh, Shamsher Singh, Lal Singh, Waryam Singh and Gurdeep Singh – who were still behind bars despite completing their prison terms. In his memorandum Gurbaksh Singh Khalsa also sought release of Prof. Devenderpal Singh Bhullar.

He stated in his letter that these Sikh detainees were denied their due rights.
