Gurbaksh Singh Khalsa tenders list of 7 Sikh political prisoners at Akal Takht

Amritsar, Punjab: Gurbaksh Singh Khalsa, who has been demanding release of Sikh political prisoners languishing in Indian Jails despite serving minimum mandatory terms of their sentences, today said that he has handed over a list of 7 Sikh prisoners at Akal Takht Sahib Secretariat in Amritsar. Gurbaksh Singh Khalsa said that Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh had called him to provide the list of concerned Sikh prisoners.

He said that he had ended his 44 day long hunger strike in December 2013 after assurance from Akal Takht Jathedar that he would secure release of concerned Sikh prisoners. He said that he would restart indefinite hunger strike if these seven Sikhs were not permanently released with in a period of two weeks.

The list submitted by Gurbaksh Singh Khalsa included names of seven Sikh prisoners, namely – Lakhwinder Singh, Gurmeet Singh, Shamsher Singh (all in Burrail Jail), Wariam Singh (UP), Lal Singh (Nabha Jail), Gurdeep Singh (Karnataka) and Prof. Devender Pal Singh Bhullar (Tihar Jail).

As per information press reporters and photographers were not allowed to take photographs etc. when Gurbaksh Singh Khalsa handed over list at the Akal Takht Secretariat.
