Gurpurb Samagams hit by violent clash at Patna Sahib; Attempt to replace Jathedar triggered incident

Patna Sahib, Bihar (January 07, 2013): It is learnt that two opponent Sikh groups clashed at Takht Patna Sahib on pious occasion of Parkash Gurpurab of tenth Sikh Guru, Guru Gobind Singh ji. According to certain media report [s]words came out as a group owing allegiance to Giani Partap Singh of Hazur Sahib tried to replace Giani Iqbal Singh as Jathedar of Takht Shri Patna Sahib.

The district administration rushed to the spot and police forces in heavy numbers have been deployed outside the Takht Patna Sahib to prevent any further untoward incident.

“Sadly, the incident happened on Tuesday morning congregation when the Sikhs in large numbers have turned out to pay obeisance and listen to Kirtan at Takht Sahib. Patna Sahib is the birth place of Shri Guru Gobind Singh ji” YesPunjab.Com, a news portal by senior Punjab journalist H. S. Bawa, notes.

As per media reports Giani Partap Singh who is Head Granthi of Takht Sachkhand Shri Hazur Sahib tried to take control as Jathedar of Takht Patna Sahib.

“He went inside the Takht first to do Sewa as Jathedar of Takht and then came to stage and started speaking, which was objected to by the supporters of Giani Iqbal Singh”.

“After that the swords came out the sangat ran out of the congregation. At the moment, the two groups and the management are in the mid of a meeting being held to solve the crisis and the Sangat is not being allowed to going inside to pay obeisance”, the source reportedly told YesPunjab.
