Chandigarh: Ending up speculations about announcement of ban on screening of Nanak Shah Fakir controversial movie, the Punjab government today took a half-hearted and incomplete decision suspending screening of the movie for two months.
Earlier today, there were reports in media that the Punjab government was likely to ban movie ‘Nanak Shah Fakir’, but the government merely suspended the screening of movie with in the state for two months. This shows that the government has taken this decision to buy some time.
It is important to note that Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh and the SGPC have asked that the movie should not be released unless and until ‘objectionable’ scenes are removed from it. This statement leaves behind scope of bargaining with film producer Harinder Sikka.
It is notable that Nanak Shah Fakir movie violates fundamental Sikh tenets that prohibits any portrayal of Sikh Gurus. Sikh scholars and intellectuals have termed such portrayal of Sikh Gurus as path towards “Spiritual Suicide”.
Various Sikh groups across the globe are demanding withdrawal of the movie.
It is notable that various Sikh organisations are currently holding a meeting at Jalandhar to chalk-out action plan to prevent release of the controversial movie.
