Chandigarh: In a setback for Aam Aadmi Party leader Sukhpal Singh Khaira, the Punjab and Haryana High Court today dismissed a petition challenging his trial in a drugs case. Sukhpal Khaira, however, quashed the non-bailable warrants issued against Sukhpal Singh Khaira by a Fazilka court.
AAP legislator and Leader of Opposition in Punjab Sukhpal Singh Khaira was summoned by Fazilka Additional Sessions Judge an FIR dated March 5, 2015 registered at police station Jalalabad.
Khaira’s counsel had earlier dubbed the matter as a “classic instance of political vendetta”. It was alleged that every attempt was being made to rope Khaira in as an accused with the solitary purpose to tarnish his reputation and public perception, notes a report by The Tribune (TT).
Khaira has been maintaining there was no substantive evidence available with the court to summon him as an accused.
