New Delhi: The hearing on the CBI’s closure report in a case against Congress leader and Sikh genocide accused Jagdish Tytler in connection with the November 1984 Sikh genocide could not take place as the Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Saurabh Pratap Singh did not hold the court yesterday. The case is now listed for hearing on April 22.

The court had earlier issued notice for March 27 on the closure report to the complainant and victim, Lakhvinder Kaur, whose husband Badal Singh was killed near Gurdwara Pulbangash during the genocidal violance against the Sikhs.

Advocate Kamna Vohra, appearing for Lakhvinder Kaur, however, claimed that the victim had not yet been served the notice.

This is the third time that Jagdish Tytler was given a clean chit in the case by the investigating agency, notes The Tribune (TT).

The CBI had said that it had conducted further probe into the case, as directed by a Sessions Court, and filed a closure report in the matter, TT news report reads further.

In April 2013, the CBI was directed by the Sessions Court to further investigate the case as it set aside its earlier closure report.

Expressing displeasure over the CBI’s move of filing the closure report, senior advocate HS Phoolka, who represented the riot victims, said, “Why is it being done so secretly? Even the complainant has not been informed about it. This shows an attempt has been made to get the closure report accepted by the court in a hush-hush manner.”

He claimed the closure report was filed on December 24 last year whereas he had only got to know about it now, and that too unofficially through another lawyer.
