Heed to Darbar Sahib head granthi’s advise on Panj Pyare issue: Panjoli to SGPC

January 5, 2016 | By

Amritsar, Punjab: Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee executive committee member Karnail Singh Panjoli, in a written press release, called upon president of the body Avtar Singh Makkar to reinstate the Panj Piaras in the light of the views expressed by Darbar Sahib Head Granthi Giani Jagtar Singh on this sensitive issue.

He also urged Avtar Singh Makkar to rectify its ‘blunder’ of sacking them by accepting their high status as per the Sikh traditions and carry out the directive issued by them to dismiss the Takht jathedars as their views on this issue reflected collective views of the Sikh community.

Expressing total support to the views expressed by Giani Jagtar Singh on independent and autonomous status of Panj Piaras, Panjoli said the Head Granthi had superbly performed his duty by providing much needed direction to the Panth facing serious crisis resulting from a series of incidents.

He underscored that Giani Jagtar Singh was occupying the high office having such eminent scholars as Bhai Mani Singh and the most respected Baba Budha as his predecessors in history. The advice given by him was fully within the framework of the Sikh ideology, doctrine, principles and traditions that should be accepted by all the Sikh organisations including the SGPC and the Akali Dal.

Panjoli stressed that time had come to evolve procedure for the appointment and removal of Takht jathedars and framework of their functioning. It was years back that such a directive was issued by the Akal Takht to the SGPC which has continued to be ignored.

He proposed that keeping in view the broader Panthic interests, the SGPC should set up a committee in consultation with representative Panthic organisations for this purpose. The recommendations of such a committee should be accepted after thorough deliberations at gathering of Sikh representatives from across the globe.

He said the high office of Akal Takht had been damaged due to flip flop by the jathedars on the issue of ex-parte exoneration of Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmit Ram Rahim Singh from the charge of blasphemy and then withdrawal of the same. The Panj Piaras had intervened only to check this denigration of the supreme institutions but the SGPC had only added to the crisis by treating them as its employees.

Panjoli made it clear the present confusion and crisis in the Sikh domain could only be taken care of by accepting the advice of the Darbar Sahib Head Granthi and the SGPC and the Akali Dal leadership must act upon it in the larger interests of the Panth.
