Chandigarh, Punjab (July 04, 2013): A Punjabi rapper-cum-singer, Zo Zo Honey Singh, who had been at the horns of controversy due to allegations of vulgar singing, was able to evade the kicks this time. Honey Singh, who was booked by Punjab police at the directions of Punjab and Haryana High Court earlier this year, reportedly claimed in the High Court on July 03, 2013 that he did not sing the controversial vulgar song – “Main Hun Balatkari” (I am a rapist).

As per recent reports granting relief to Honey Singh, the High Court quashed the petition against him on July 04, 2013.

“In a major relief for rapper Honey Singh, the Punjab and Haryana High Court on Thursday quashed a petition against him” IBLive.in has reported.

According to a news reported by Times of India (TOI): Honey Singh … has said that he has not sung any such song and he has been framed in this case due to ‘mistaken identity’.”

It is learnt that in a affidavit filed before the High Court on July 03, 2013 Honey Singh favoured the setting up of censor board for screening songs before those are sung before public.

Earlier on July 03, 2013 Honey Singh had reportedly told High Court that “Main Hun Balatkari” sing was existing on “Youtube” since February, 2008, but he had no connection with this Honey Singh (who has been shown as a singer on the Youtube).

He has also claimed that a complaint to the authorities of ‘Youtube’ in May and August, 2012 and then in January 2013 has also been filed by him in this regard but they are reluctant to solve the problem.

“The person (fake Honey Singh or any other name), who has sung this very song and uploaded on the internet portal should be prosecuted for the wrong done by him and in this regard, the responsibility of the internet portal should also be fixed, in case they have acted in contravention of the provisions of law,” said Honey Singh in his reply.

It is notable that the matter had reached before the HC through a public interest litigation (PIL) filed by NGO called HELP of Nawanshar in Punjab seeking directions to set up some effective mechanism for curbing the menace of obscene/vulgar/lewd songs from the state of Punjab.

Vulgarity in Punjabi songs is now being viewed as a major problem at cultural level by various social groups.
