Amritsar, Punjab: Dal Khalsa youth wing ‘Sikh Youth of Punjab’ has reasserted it’s stand to follow the original Nanakshahi Calendar. A gathering of the Sikh Youth of Punjab today observed in a resolution that ‘implementing the original Nanakshahi calendar is vital for the unity of the Sikhs’.

‘The Nanakshahi Calendar is an identity marker for the Sikh community and the changes have already killed the spirit of the almanac. The amendments made in 2010 had imprint of the RSS and now, the latest efforts to revert it to Bikrami was a part of larger conspiracy hatched by anti-panthic elements to cause severe set-back to the Sikh’s distinct identity’ said the Sikh youth body.

SYP leaders urged the Jathedar Akal Takht and others to build consensus on the issue instead of playing partisan role.

The gathering also decided to follow the original Nanakshahi calendar and observe the Parkash Utsav of Guru Gobind Singh on Jan 5th.
