Southall/London: A ‘Punjabi Boli Conference’ was held at Sri Guru Singh Sabha Gurdwara Sahib (Havelock Road) in Southall last month. During this conference, held on 26th October, S. Gurmail Singh Malhi, (President of SGSSS), welcomed all the delegates and thanked them for attending the meeting. The conference was chaired by Dr Pargat Singh, Chairman, Sikh Education Council, UK, on Gurnail Singh Malhi’s request.

Three resolutions were adopted during this conference after thorough discussion.

It was decided to form a subgroup to evaluate, assess the syllabus that is being taught in Gurdwara Punjabi Schools as well as other schools. Necessary recommendations, if needed, would be made to increase and improve the Gurmat based “vocabulary set” of young students in Punjabi classes run by the Gurdwara Sahibs.

In the second resolution it was decided to form another subgroup to investigate the feasibility of setting up a scholarship with a view to developing Punjabi language to be used in commerce, politics and business.

In the third resolution it was decided that the Gurdwara Sahib representatives would meet separately to discuss ways in which they can collectively support the setting up of scholarships in the UK for academic, commerce, and political development of the Punjabi/Gurmukhi Lipi

A written release says that Dr Pargat Singh has been delegated to call further meetings of the above groups. The conference ended with Dr. Pargat Singh thanking all the participants.
