Chandigarh: A former deputy commander of Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) has levelled serious charges of sexual abuse of ladies in Indian forces.
Former deputy commander Karunajit Kaur told media persons that she has resigned from his job to pursue the fight against inaction against accused men in uniform who had sexually assaulted her and another lady officer back in June.
She said that she along with another lady officer (doctor) was sent to border area in Uttrakhand and their request for sending some lady constables with them was denied.
She said that there was no other lady personnel posted in that area.

She told reporters that during mid-night on the first night of their stay a constable intruded into their room and said that he had not touched any women for long and he needed one. “He kept repeating these words”, said he.
She told media persons that she managed to keep him away and called other personnel but found that their response was very cold.
Karunajit Kaur said that even high officials did not take any immediate action and she along with other lady officer spent whole night in a vehicle parked on roadside.
She alleged that senior officials also tempered with the evidence and no action was taken on her complaint.
She said that she has resigned from her ITBP to take up fight against inaction on her complaint.
In response to a query she said that girls were being recruited into forces for ‘entertainment’ purpose.
“My rank was equal to a Major and a constable assaulted me, just image what would be the scenario in reverse case”, she said while pointing that ladies holding lower ranks in Indian forces were more vulnerable to sexual abuse.
