Jagraon police gets 3 days police remand of Bhai Harminder Singh Mintoo in a 2010 case

Ludhiana/ Jagraon: Jagraon police today secured police remand of Bhai Harminder Singh Mintoo for three days. A police party led by DSP Satnam Singh and Inspector Rajesh Kumar brought Harmindr Singh Mintoo from Kapurthala jail on production warrants. Police party presented him before DSJM (Jagraon) Gurbir Singh’s court and demanded 10 days police remand in a case pertaining to F.I.R. number 8/2010 under sections 4 and 5 of Explosives Act. This case was registered at Sidhar Police station falling under Ludhiana rural police district.

Prosecution pleaded that it was a question of unity and integrity of the country (desh di ekta akhandta da sawal) to demand 10 days police remand of Bhai Harmidner Singh Mintoo.
Defense council Advocate Jaspal Singh Manjhpur strongly opposed the prosecution/ police argument. Adovoate JS Manjhpur informed the court that this case was primarily registered against Bakhsish Singh, Harjant Singh, Jasvir Singh Manki and Pargat Singh. He told the court that all these persons have already been accused by the trial court in a decision dated May 23, 2013.
Advocate Manjhpur argued that when prime accused have already been acquitted in this case there was no logic behind granting 10 days remand of a person facing charges under section 120-B of IPC.
Advocate Manjhpur pointed out that Bhai Harminder Singh Mintoo was kept under police remand for 22 days (from Nov. 08 to Nov. 30)after his arrest early last month. He said that Punjab DGP himself supervised the interrogation of Harminder SIngh Mintoo, therefore demand of 10 days remand in that case was uncalled for.
After hearing the arguments the court granted 3 days of police remand of Bhai Harminder Singh Mintoo. The court also passed directions to provide proper medical case to Harminder Singh Mintoo in wake of the fact that he recently underwent a heart bypass surgery.
