Jagtar Singh Tara sent on police remand for another day by Jalandhar court

Jalandhar: Jalandhar rural police yesterday presented Bhai Jagtar Singh Tara in the court of Duty Magistrate SK Goyal after the expiry of his 5 days police custody. The police claimed that Jagtar Singh Tara allegedly hid a cache of weapons at Sri Ganganagar in Rajasthan and demanded additional five-day police remand.

Defence council K. S. Hundal opposed the police plea and told the court that when the police did not find anything substantial in last five, there was no reason for entertaining demand for another five days custody.

After hearing arguments of both sides the court granted additional remand for just one day.

Media reports say that the police official were tight-lipped on progress in Tara’s interrogation.

It is notable that Jagtar Singh Tara was brought on production warrants from the Ropar jail in a five-year-old case registered against 14 persons at the Bhogpur police station on September 28, 2009, under the Prevention of Unlawful Activities Act.

The police is expected to seek Bhai Tara’s remand in a case under the Explosives Act, Arms Act and the Prevention of Unlawful Activities Act registered at the Goraya police station in 2012.
