Jalalabad Constituency Results: Sukhbir Badal Leading; Bhagwant Mann jumps to 2nd place

Jalalabad: In a high stakes electoral battle Shiromani Akali Dal Badal chief Sukhbir Badal is leading the Jalalabad Constituency. Bhagwant Mann of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is trailing at 2nd place.

Sukhbir Badal Son of CM Parkash Singh Badal stared his political carrer as a member of parliament in the 11th and 12th general elections representing Faridkot. He was Union Minister of State for Industry in Second Vajpayee Ministry during 1998 to 1999. He was also a member of Rajya Sabha during 2001 to 2004. In 2004, he was re-elected from Faridkot for 14th Lok Sabha. He became the President of Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal) in January 2008. A year later in January 2009, he was made the Deputy Chief Minister of Punjab. He was not the Member of Punjab Vidhan Sabha at that time. He was again appointed Deputy Chief Minister in August 2009 after winning by-elections from Jalalabad Assembly Constituency he again won from jalalabad constituency and retained Deputy Chief Ministership.

Bhagwant Mann a known caricrature and a household name in punjab started his carrer with comdey by debuting in a comedy album Kulfi garma garam in 1993.It was early 2011 & it was this time when entered active politics of Punjab with his membership of People’s Party of Punjab under the leadership of Manpreet Singh Badal. He left the People’s Party of Punjab in March 2014 and joined Aam Aadmi Party to contest as its candidate from Sangrur Lok Sabha constituency in the Indian General Election 2014 . He won by 200,000 votes, setting a new record in Punjab defeating Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa, a prominent leader of Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal).
