Amritsar, Punjab (April 29, 2014): It is learnt that Giani Kulwant Singh, Jathedar of Takht Sri Hazur Sahib has accepted apology tendered by Punjab Cabinet Minister Bikram Majithia who was declared ‘Tankhaiya’ (guilty of religious misconduct) on April 27.
Bikram Majithia had invited trouble by distorting ‘Shabad’ (Hymn) of Guru Gobind Singh ji at an election meeting in favour of SAD-BJP alliance candidate and Hindutva ideologue Arun Jaitley on 25th of April in Amritsar parliamentary constituency.
On April 27 Takht Hazur Sahib Jathedar had asked the Sikhs to boycott Bikram Majithia for his blasphemous act and not to keep any relation with him.
As per information Bikram Majithia, on late evening of April 27, sent a letter of apology addressed to Jathedar of Takht Hazur Sahib. In his letter Bikram Majithia reportedly admitted his mistake and said that he as a humble Sikh also respects and would honour the ‘Hukamnama’ issued by the Takht. Bikram Majithia, in his letter, had said that he would perform any ‘Seva’ to atone his ‘mistake’.
As per reports in wake of Bikram Majithia’s letter, a fresh ‘Hukamnama’ in this respect was issued. The Hukamnama however, makes it clear, that Bikram Majithia would be forgiven only after he completes the performance of ‘Seva’ assigned to him by the five Singh Sahibs, when he appears before the Takht.
On the other hand Giani Gurbachan Singh, jathedar of Akal Takht Sahib, has called a meeting of Five Sikh jathedars at Amritsar on May 1 to discuss Bikram Majithia’s apology.
