Jodhpur, Tarn Taran: The police have reportedly booked 10 followers of Divya Jyoti Jagriti Sansthan (DJJS) alias Dera Noormehal on Dec. 02 in connection with burning of a Saroop of Guru Granth Sahib at Jodhpur village in Tarn Taran on Dec. 01.
Dera Noormehal men have been booked under Sections 452, 295A, 436 and 427 of the IPC. Those booked included Balkar Singh, Maan Singh, Balbir Singh, Harjit Singh Lovely, Bhola Singh, Rinku, Sucha Singh, Tejinder Singh and Onkar Singh. The case was registered after a villager, Ajit Singh, alleged that these persons might be behind the incident.
Meanwhile the Shiromani Gurdwara Prabhandak Committee (SGPC) has constituted a three-member committee to probe the matter. The committee comprises SGPC executive members Rajinder Singh Mehta and Gurbachan Singh Karmuwal and secretary Roop Singh. It will submit a report to SGPC chief Avtar Singh Makkar.
Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh, who visited the village today. Giani Gurbachan Singh had to face the wrath of Sikh sangat who felt that he should have visited the spot yesterday itself.
The Jathedar blamed the dera followers accusing them of resorting to anti-Panthic activities.
Earlier in the day a Nagat Kirtan was taken out from village Jodhpur (Tarn Taran) to Goindwal Sahib to take out the Saroop of Guru Granth Sahib to Goindwal Sahib. An ‘Akhand Paath Sahib’ has started at village Jodhpur (Tarn Taran) and the bhog shall be conducted on December 04.
Representatives of various Sikh religious bodies are camping at village Jodhpur to ensure proper action against the culprits.
