Srinagar, Kashmir (July 17, 2014): As per reports the the Kashmir valley today observed a shut down Hurriyat Conference (HC) against Israeli air strikes in Gaza. Notably air-strike in Gaza has left more than 200 people, including women and children, dead during the past one week.
Shops and business establishments remained closed in summer capital Srinagar and its adjoining areas in response to the strike call. However, some medical shops were open in some city areas.
Traffic was also off the roads. However, private vehicles and some passenger vehicles were also seen plying in the civil lines and uptown area. Three wheelers had yet another field day, charging extra from passengers in the absence of normal transport service, including State Road Transport Corporation (SRTC) buses.
Work in government offices and banks was also affected.
Meanwhile, educational institutions remained closed due to summer vacation, ordered by the government fearing protests by students against Gaza killings. However, despite vacation, students continued to protest across the valley during the past few days against the Gaza killings.
Similar reports were also received from other parts of Kashmir valley. The strike call was given by Hurriyat and supported by a number of other organisations, including Islami Tanzeem-e-Azadi.
