Chandigarh/ Punjab (January 02, 2013): Lyricists turned actor Raj Kakra’s debut Punjabi film “Kaum De Heere” shall be released on February 28, 2014. This movie is based on true-life events related Shaheed Beant Singh and Satwant Singh, who had assassinated/ punished Indian Prime minister Indira Gandhi after the later had ordered armed attack on Darbar Sahib (Amritsar) in June 1984.
Raj Kakra is playing the role of Shaheed Beant Singh in this movie. He is reportedly travelling abroad for the promotion of the movie.
The June 1984 attack was codenamed as Operation Bule Star by the Indian army. The Army had attacked more than 3 dozen Sikh Gurdwaras in Punjab and adjoining states with prime focus on Darbar Sahib complex in Amritsar. The attack had resulted in huge damage to the physical structure of Akal Takht Sahib and destruction of the Sikh reference library situated with in the precincts of Darbar Sahib complex. Army had killed thousands in clod blood during this attack, that left deep wound of the collective Sikh memory.
After the attack two of Indira Gandhi’s bodyguards namely Bhai Beant Singh and Satwant Singh shot her dead on October 31, 1984. Bhai Beant Singh was martyred by other bodyguards of Indira Gandhi. Bhai Satwant Singh was also wounded but he had survived the injuries. He was sentenced to death along with Bhai Kehar Singh.
The movie Kaum De Heere (Diamonds of the Nation) is based on events related to assassination of Indira Gandhi and martyrdom of Shaheed Beant Singh, Satwant Singh and Kehar Singh.
The producers of the movie have announced to release this movie on February 28, 2014 though there are suspicions if the censor board would clear this movie for release.
