Mississauga, ON: Five years ago a group of young Sikh professional embarked on providing safe, nutritious and culturally-appropriate food to families in need, Seva Food Bank said in a written statement sent to the Sikh Siyasat News (SSN).

“Since opening our doors on September 1st, 2015, millions of pounds of food have been collected and distributed to thousands of families in need by hundreds of volunteers supported by thousands of donors” states board chair, Kulvir Singh Gill.  “The 5th Anniversary Kirtan is a celebration of these accomplishments”.  The Seva Food Bank 5th Anniversary Kirtan will be held on Sunday September 13, 2015 at Seva Food Bank Malton (2832 Slough Street, Mississauga, Ontario) from 12 PM to 4 PM.

“The past 5 years has been an amazing journey.  We opened the doors to our first food bank in September 2010.  That year we served over 2000 people.  In 2013, we once again partnered with The Mississauga Food Bank to establish the Seva Food Bank Malton.  That year, we served more than 8615 individuals. Last year, we were privileged to served over 17,000 individuals, with over 780,000 meals” says Manraj Singh Pannu.  “To mark the occasion of our 5th Anniversary, Seva Food Bank will be hosting a  Kirtan so that we can come together as a community, give thanks for our blessings and collectively pray for a brighter future”, he adds.

At its two locations across Mississauga, Seva Food Bank provides local families with safe, nutritious, and culturally appropriate food.  Seva Food Bank Wolfedale and Seva Food Bank Malton both provides a unique venue that brings together children, families, and community members to address the root causes and consequences of food insecurity, stimulate life long learning, and improve the health and well-being of the communities we live in.
