Ranchi, India (October 03, 2013): It is learnt that Indian politician Lalu Prasad Yadav has been sentenced to five years in jail for corruption in a case linked to the massive “Fodder Scam” that unfolded while he was Chief Minister of Bihar. Lalu Yadav now stands disqualified as a Member of Parliament.
He has been in jail in Ranchi since October 01, 2013, when he (along with 44 others) was found guilty of facilitating the embezzlement of 37 crores of government money for fictitious medicines and fodder for cattle. The verdict came 17 years after the case was registered.
Lalu and other convicts in the case heard the verdict via video conference.
Another former chief minister of Bihar, Jagannath Mishra of the Congress, was sentenced to four years in prison. Jagdish Sharma of the ruling Janata Dal United, also got a four-year sentence which means he is no longer a member of parliament.
