Lok Sabha Election 2014 – Campaign ends in Punjab; Polling on April 30; 1.95 cr. Voters, 253 contestants

Ludhiana, Punjab (April 28, 2014): The election campaign for the 13 Lok Sabha seats in Punjab came to an end today. Polling shall be held on April 30. As per Indian Election commission records about there are about 1.95 crore registered voters in Punjab.

There are 253 contestants in the state.

The election campaign was dominated by a series of exchange of blames, charges and counter-charges by politicians and political parties, especially between Shiromani Akali Dal Badal-BJP combine and the Congress party.

Newly-formed Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), led by former Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal has also fielded it’s candidates from all 13 seats in Punjab.

India’s top politicians such as Narendra Modi, Rajnath Singh, Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, Prakash Karat, Mayawati, Arvind Kejriwal and Yogendra Yadav addressed election rallies or held road shows in Punjab.

As per information there are a total of 21,957 polling stations, for which 24,300 voting machines will be used. Some 180 companies of central security forces have been deployed, besides one lakh each of police personnel and polling staff.
