Queens, New York (August 20, 2014): As per information available with the Sikh Siyasat News (SSN), the Police have arrested Joseph Caleca, a 55-year-old New York male, on charges of Attempted Murder as a Hate Crime and Assault as a Hate Crime on Sandeep Singh (29).
On July 30, 2014, on 101 Ave. 99th street in Richmond Hill, Queens, New York, Caleca called Singh a terrorist from his pickup truck while Singh crossed the street. When Singh protested, Caleca ran his truck over Singh and drove away. Singh was dragged almost 60 feet down 101st Avenue. His body finally came loose from Caleca’s truck, which kept going
Caleca, of Setauket on Long Island, was arrested Monday, August 18, 2014 on charges of attempted murder as a hate crime and assault as a hate crime.
Sandeep Singh, father of two, miraculously survived being mowed over by the truck. He has been released from the hospital and is now recuperating at home.
United Sikhs has extended thanks the local police and the NYPD Hate Crimes task force for all their efforts in capturing the culprit.
United Sikhs Legal Director, Manvinder Singh stated “We sincerely hope the culprit will be adequately sentenced by the court, so it acts as a deterrent in the future for those who think about committing such heinous crimes”
