Loot of Punjab River Water: Past & Present and Role of Badal-BJP-Congress

July 1, 2016 | By

Chandigarh: Recently, Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal claimed that his government has scrapped section 5 of Punjab Termination of Agreements Act, 2004. He, however, failed to tell that when was this done. The Congress party has taken a dig at CM Badal for his statement and Congress leader Sunil Jakhar said that Punjab CM was miss-informed on this issue.

Section 5 was unanimously passed in the Punjab Vidhan Sabha by Congress, SAD (Badal) and BJP on July 12, 2004. This section has validated the extra-legal and extra-constitutional arrangements through which the river water of Punjab was allocated to “non-riparian” states of Rajasthan, Delhi and Haryana.

Sikh Siyasat’s editor Parmjeet Singh explores the past and present situation on this issue besides analysing the role of Congress, SAD (Badal) and BJP in relation to the loot of Punjab’s river water.
