Mallanwala Incident: Police Book Sikh Pracharak, 70 others; Dera’s Charcha held under police protection

February 27, 2017 | By

Ferozepur: A day after the clash between followers of Dera Sacha Sauda and Sikh sangat at Mallanwala in Ferozepur district, the police booked Sikh preacher Baba Dilbagh Singh of Ek-Noor Khalsa Fauj and 70 unidentified people.

Mallanwala is located in Zira constituency of Ferozepur district where the clash took place between Dera followers and Sikhs on Saturday because of attempt by Dera followers to hold their activity.

On February 19, a clash had ensued between Dera followers and Sikhs in the Makhu area, about 12 kms from Mallanwala again over the issue of dera’ activity in that area in which 37 people were booked.

As per information the police have booked Sikhs under sections 295, 295A, 504, 427, 506, 148 and 149 IPC.

Ferozepur SSP Gaurav Garg said, “We are investigating both the cases and will make arrests soon.

As per information the police administration is facilitating Dera Sauda Sirsa followers to organise their programmes. A report in an English vernacular states that Dera Sauda Sirsa followers held their activity at eight different places in Ferozepur on Sunday (Feb. 26) under the police security.

It is notable that Dera head Gurmeet Ram Raheem had organized a function in Salabatpura (District Bathinda) in 2007 where he personified himself as Tenth Sikh Guru, Guru Gobind Singh Ji. He attempted to dishonour the Sikh traditions, history and ceremony of Amrit Sanchar. Personification of Sikh Gurus is strictly prohibited in Sikh religion. In May 2007 the Akal Takht had issued a Hukumnama against Dera Sirsa chief which also sought bar on Dera’s activities.

It is further notably that the controversial dera head is facing many serious criminal charges, including murder and rape charges in CBI courts.

Notably, in September 2015 the ruling Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal) had attempted to get Dera Chief pardoned form the Akal Takht Sahib and SGPC appointed Jathedars had issued a pardon letter, but it was later withdrawn in wake of strong resentment form the Sikh Sangat.

Sikander Maluka and other SAD (Badal) leaders at Jeet Palace Bathinda | February 01, 2017

SAD (Badal) leaders held a joint conference with Dera’s political wing on February 02, 2017 at Bathinda to announce their mutual understanding. Dera Sirsa extended its support to SAD (Badal) for Punjab state assembly elections, polling for which was held on Feb. 04 and in return SAD (Badal) declared to facilitate Dera chief’s entry in Punjab. Notably, Dera Sirsa chief has not entered Punjab since 2007 controversy. There is sudden rise in Dera’s activity and the resultant clashes between Dera followers and the Sikh sangat since the Bathinda conference.
