Manpreet Singh New Zealand’s arrest condemned; AISSF supports peaceful struggle for Sikhs’ right to justice

Chandigarh/ Jalandhar, Punjab (March 24, 2013): While condemning the branding of All India Sikh Students Federation (AISSF) as a militant organization, AISSF President Karnail Singh Peermohammad stated that action against Manpreet Singh is an attempt to thwart AISSF’s campaign seeking justice for the victims of Sikh Genocide 1984.

“Branding Manpreet Singh as ‘AISSF militant’ is unjustified and malicious propaganda because he was never convicted for the offence for which he was recently arrested by Punjab police” reads a statement by AISSF president Karnail Singh Peermohammad.

According to Peermohammad: “AISSF, that is spearheading the Sikh Insaaf Lehar campaign is a registered Sikh human rights organization committed to work for the betterment of Sikh community, promoting the values of Sikhism and to raise voice on the issues concerning the Sikh community”.

“AISSF believes in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and peaceful struggle for Sikhs’ right to self determination as guaranteed by UN Charter” said Peermohammad.

He said that AISSF was being targeted for raising the voice against Congress leaders Kamal Nath, Sajjan Kumar and Jagdish Tytler who organized systematic killing of Sikhs during November 1984.

“On one hand, AISSF is being maligned while on the other hand political parties like Congress whose top leadership was involved in genocidal attacks against a religious minority is being rewarded with Cabinet positions” added Peermohammad.

“Despite the testimony of hundreds of witnesses not a single Congress leader has been convicted for organizing the attack on Sikhs during November 1984” he added.

“AISSF vows to defend its image and its right to peacefully raise the voice for justice and Sikhs’ right to self-determination”.

“AISSF Chief stated that they have no faith in the Indian justice system any-more because it failed to punish the killers of Sikhs during the past more than 28 years. AISSF will approach United Nations demanding investigation of killing of Sikhs during November 1984 and to declare November 1984 as “Sikh Genocide”. In support of the petition to United Nations, AISSF has launched a campaign to collect million signatures”, said AISSF president.
