Chandigarh: In wake of expected court verdict in a rape case against Gurmeet Ram Rahim – controversial chief of Dera Sauda Sirsa (DSS), the Mobile internet data services are banned/suspended in Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh for 72 hours.
As per information, the decision to suspend mobile Internet services was taken in a coordination committee meeting of Haryana, Punjab and Union Territory Chandigarh held under the chairmanship of Punjab Governor and UT Administrator.
Ram Niwas, Additional Chief Secretary, Home, Haryana said that it was also decided to request the Ministry of Railways to immediately stop all passenger trains coming to Chandigarh for two days. Buses of Haryana Roadways coming to Chandigarh and Panchkula have already been stopped for two days.
It is notable that Gurmeet Ram Rahim is facing criminal charges, including rape, in a CBI court. The Panchkula (Haryana) based CBI court has fixed August 25 as the date for court decision in this matter. The governments of Haryana and Punjab have beefed up the security sensing trouble by dera followers.
