#ModiFailsTest tending on Twitter after announcement of byelection results

New Delhi, India: Hashtag “#ModiFailsTest” is currently trending on micro-blogging website Twitter. Byelections for more than 30 assembly seats in 10 Indian states were regarded as an acid test for Narendra Modi’s (so-called) magic that had helped BJP to secure clear majority during Lok Sabha elections held earlier this year.

A brief analysis of user profiles using #ModiFailsTest hash-tag reveals that majority of them are Aam Aadmi Party supporters. However, many users, presumably Modi supporters, are criticizing the trend maintaining that Narendra Modi should not be blamed for defeat of BJP in byelections.

Out of 11 seats in Uttar Pradesh, 9 went to Samajvadi Party, while BJP managed to get only 2 seats. Whereas in last Lok Sabha elections BJP had secured a land-sliding victory in UP.

In Rajasthan too, the ruling BJP lost 3 out 4 by-polls seats. The saffron party had swept through the state in the last assembly election.

In Gujrat BJP managed to secure 6 assembly seats, with 3 going to Congress.

Hashtag #ModiFailsTest is also accompanied by #CommunalPoliticsFailed giving and impression that BJP has failed because of it’s alleged “communal politics”, especially in UP.
