According to media reports the counting of votes was completed in the afternoon on February 28, 2013.

As per information Joginderpal Jain got 69265 votes, while the Congress candidate Vijay Sathi got 50,420 votes.

The candidate of People’s Party of Punjab (PPP) secured 7400 votes.

As per reports Joginderpal Jain maintained a consistent lead in all the rounds except for one.

He had managed a lead of over fifteen thousand votes from the rural areas in the first six rounds. The congress, which expected to do well in the urban areas, could not cover up the lead.

Rather it conceded more lead in the following rounds and Joginderpal Jain reportedly managed to improve the lead to 18849. Thus he won from the urban areas as well although the margin was only 3500 votes.

It is notable that the Moga byeleciton was forced by the resignation of Joginderpal Jain who had won the last assembly elections on the ticket of Congress party but later joined the ruling Badal Dal. To prevent the effects of anti-defection laws he had resigned from his membership to the state assembly.
