More than a million expected to pay homage to Sikh martyrs (Chhote Sahibzade) at Fatehgarh Sahib

Fatehgarh Sahib, Punjab (December 25, 2012): As per media reports more than 10-lakh (a million) Sikh devotees are expected to pay obeisance at Gurdwara Fatehgarh Sahib as part of the three-day Shaheedi Jor Mela, that begun here on December 25, 2012.

The Shaheedi Jor Mela is organised annually to observe the martyrdom day of Chhote Sahibzade, the younger sons of Tenth Sikh Guru, Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji, who were “bricked” alive in 1705 during the rule of Mughal emperor Aurangzeb, by the ruler of Sirhind named Wazir Khan.

The three-day religious function begin with an Akhand Path at Gurdwara Jyoti Swarup every year.

On second day various political parties organize conferences at Fatehgarh Sahib and on the last day of the Shaheedi Sabha, a Nagar Kirtan is taken out from Gurdwara Sri Fatehgarh Sahib to Gurdwara Jyoti Swaroop.

Shaheedi Sabha of Fatehgarh Sahib is one of the largest attended annual gatherings of Sikhs.
