Name and shame politicians, cops involved in drug smuggling: SYP to Shashi Kant

Hoshiarpur, Punjab (September 12, 2013): The Dal Khalsa’s youth wing ‘Sikh Youth of Punjab’ (SYP) has endorsed the observation made by the former director general of police (prisons) Shashi Kant that the drug racket in Punjab is not short of a “systematic genocide” by drug smugglers and their “protectors sitting in the government at all levels”.

Pertinently, in his petition in the Punjab and Haryana high court Kant has revealed that many politicians from various parties run “the racket” either directly or through henchmen in connivance with police.

Party’s head Ranbir Singh, vice president Paramjit Singh and general secretary Manjit Singh on Wednesday hits out at political parties of all shades for showing casual approach towards the drug menace.“What they fail to realize is that the drug menace was taking monstrous shape and unless they all join hands and wage a battle against drug abuse, it will consume the next generation, or most of it. ”.

They said Kant’s report, in which he has named the politicians and police officials involved in smuggling of narcotics, has become mystery.

Reacting sharply on state government’s denial in receiving any list of politicians and police officers involved in drug smuggling submitted by Kant during his tenure as intelligence chief, the leaders of youth group urged Kant to come forward and reveal the names of all those who are involved directly or otherwise in drug trafficking. “We have been listening that you had prepared some report that contains names of bad politicians and black sheep in police department. What stops you in exposing such bad elements in public”, they wondered.

Expressing grave concern over the 70% of state population being exposed to drugs, they said Mr Kant should unmask those who were part of larger design in destroying the future of young boys and girls of the region.
