Nanak Shah Fakir Movie controversy: Federation (Mehta) to stage state-wide protests on March 25

March 24, 2015 | By

Amritsar/ Ludhiana: Opposition to upcoming film “Nanak Shah Fakir”, releasing on April 17, out in open now. After the Shiromani Gurdwara Prabhandak Committee (SGPC) declared to have already disapproved the movie, Sikh Students Federation (Mehta faction) has announced to stage state-wide protest against Harinder Sikka’s controversial movie.

Various other Sikh organizations, including Sikh Youth of Punjab (SYP), Sikh Youth Federation Bhindranwale (SYFB) and United Khalsa Dal (UK) have also opposed the movie as it violates Sikh traditions by depicting Guru Nanak ji and his family members as ‘characters’ of a movie.

The makers of the movie were propagating that the movie was made with “support and blessings” of Akal Takht Sahib, but the Akal Takht Jatehdar Giani Gurbachan Singh rejected this impression and said that the movie was never supported by the Akal Takht Sahib.

SSF (Mehta) president Paramjeet Singh Khalsa said that activists of Federation will hold demonstrations at district level throughout Punjab. He said that the movie should be banned with immediate effect and Akal Takht should take strict action against the makers of the movie.

“Federation will strongly oppose the movie and we won’t allow it’s screening in cinemas”, a prominent Punjabi vernacular Daily Ajit quotes Paramjeet Singh Khalsa.

Meanwhile, Harinder Sikka, maker of the Nanak Shah Fakir movie, could not be reached for comments despite repeated attempts.
