Chandigarh/ Ludhaina, Punjab (December 17, 2013): As per certain media reports the Badal Dal President and Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Badal and Kamal Sharma President of the Punjab unit of BJP have jointly decided to postpone the Narindra Modi’s Punjab rally which was to be held on December 21st at Jagraon.
Sukhbir Badal and Kamal Kant Sharma said that the rally would now be held in February and its date would be announced soon.
In a statement released from the party head office at Chandigarh, the Badal Dal Secretary and Spokesman Dr. Daljit Singh Cheema said that the weather forecast for the next three days and forecast of rain on December 21st is the reason for postponement of the rally.
Dr. Daljeet Cheema also said that all the worker meetings which were scheduled to be addressed by SAD President Mr. Sukhbir Singh Badal at Sangrur, Jagraon and Jalandhar on December 18 stand cancelled.
It is notable that Badal government looked red faced when a Sikh youth Gurpreet Singh Guri recently attempted to use the stage of so-called World Kabbadi Cup’s stage on December 14, 2013 at Guru Nanak Stadium Ludhiana to raise the voice of Sikh political prisoners languishing in Indian jails despite serving the terms of their sentences.
It is further notable that political parties/organizations in Punjab including Shiroamani Akali Dal Amritsar (Mann), Dal Khalsa and the Congress party were opposing Narindra Modi’s Punjab rally due to his anti-minority activities.
Moreover, the struggle for release of Sikh political prisoners has also intensified in Punjab as the hunger strike by a Sikh activist has entered 34th day today.
Therefore it is suspected by Sikh circles that the Badal Dal’s decision to postpone/cancel Narindra Modi’s rally is more motivated by political reason than the weather forecast.
