Amritsar: A new book titled “Azaadnama: Fansi De Takhte Ton Jail Chithian” has brought into light many unpublished letters of Bhai Sukha-Jinda. Co-edited by Parmjeet Singh Gazi (editor of Sikh Siyasat News) and Ranjeet Singh, Azaadnama is published by Bibekgarh Parkashan.

The book is compilation of letters written by Shaheed Bhai Sukhdev Singh Sukha and Shaheed Bhai Harjinder Singh Jinda from Yerawada Central Jail, Pune before their Shahadat (martyrdom) on 9th of October 1992.

Notably, Bhai Sukha-Jinda’s letters were first published by Sikh Students Front in December 1992 in book titled “Shaheed Bhai Harjinder Singh Jinda Ate Shaheed Bhai Sukhdev Singh Sukha Dian Jail Chithian“. This book was published just two months after their martyrdom and carried limited number of letters written by Bhai Sukha-Jinda. It was reprinted in 1993 and 1995 and is long out of print now. Another book titled “Bhai Harjinder Singh Jinda, Bhai Sukhdev Singh Sukha Dian Jail Chithian” is presently available. But in this book too, limited number of letters were published.

The new book “Azaadnama” is a compilation of recently discovered, as well as previously published letters of Bhai Sukha Jinda. In all, content from 80 letters of Bhai Sukha-Jinda is published in Azaadnama. Some other letters (including a letter written by Jujharoos to Bhai Sukha-Jinda) and important documents are published as annexures in Azaadnama.

Images of jail belongings of Shaheed Sukha-Jinda, including their pens, inkpots, utensils, clothes including Shaheedi Cholas, books, Kes Khajana etc. are also published in this books.

According to the editors, letters published in Azaadnama shed light on great personality of Shaheed Bhai Sukha-Jinda; tells about their companions, narrates the story of important actions like execution of former Indian army chief Arun Vaidya and other culprits of June and November 1984 attacks on Sikhs.

Text of these letters highlight that how strong was belief of Bhai Sukha-Jinda on Guru Sahib and Gurbani, and how freely and fearlessly they lived their life in jail. These letters are equally important and relevant today as their text presents clarity on vital aspects of Sikh struggle and “the Sikh Idea of State” called the Khalistan.

The book was released few days back and is now available for the readers.
