Notably, the Nirankari had come in direct clash with the Sikhs during late 1970s when the then sect head Gurbachan had attempted to personify himself as Sikh Gurus. Nirankaris had killed 13 Sikhs on Vaisakhi day in 1978 in Amritsar during a peaceful protest by Sikhs against notorious activities of the Nirankari sect.
