Amritsar, Punjab: As the controversy surrounding the upcoming movie ‘Nanak Shah Fakir’ grows stronger, the Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh has clarified that he had not given any clearance to the movie.
“I had merely conveyed best wishes to the film’s producer through a letter, but no clearance was given to the movie”, said he. He said he also had a word with the film’s producer and clarified his position on the issue.
The SGPC has already expressed its reservations against the movie.

A SGPC spokesperson said, “Any movie related to the Sikh religion must seek prior approval from the SGPC. If the film-makers seek SGPC’s nod, then there is no scope for any controversy.”
He clarified that the film, ‘Nanak Shah Fakir’, hasn’t been cleared by the SGPC till now.
On the other hand, the film’s producer, Harinder Singh Sikka, has denied violating any Sikh principles.
Various Sikh organizations have announced to oppose the movie.
