Chandigarh: After the cause of Moga Orbit Bus molestation case came up for hearing before a division bench of the Punjab and Haryana High Court, the judges comprising the bench picked the escape route and withdrew them selves from this case.

“A Punjab and Haryana high court bench on Monday recused from hearing the Moga bus molestation case in which a teenage girl died after being allegedly thrown off a bus”, a Times of India report notes.

It is notable that the state high court had taken suo motu cognisance of a letter written to it regarding the Moga incident in which a teenaged girl died on April 30 after she and her mother were molested and pushed out a bus belonging to Orbit Aviation. Orbit Aviation is reportedly owned by Punjab’s ruling Badal family.

As the matter came up for hearing before the division bench of justices Satish Kumar Mittal and Harinder Singh Sidhu today (May 04), the bench withdrew itself from the matter and referred it to the Chief Justice to be assigned to some other bench.

Judges did not assign any reasons as to why they refused to hear the matter. As per established practise the Chief Justice of the high court will refer the case to another bench for hearing.
