Observing the century of Gadhar Movement – Punjabi varsity students to hold seminar on April 04

Patiala, Punjab (April 02, 2013): Gadhar Movement was one of the major movement against the British rule in India and this year marks the century of formation of the Gadhar party. Students of Punjabi University, under the banner of Sikh Students Federation (SSF), have decided to observe the century celebrations of Gadhar Party by holding a Seminar on April 05 at Aujla Auditorium in Punjabi University, Patiala.

Gadhar movement was started by Punjabi migrants, mostly Sikh, who had migrated to America and Canada in late nineteenth and early twentieth century. Thousands of Gadhris had returned to their homeland to oust the British colonial power. According to SSF the Gadhar Lehar occupies a unique position among the various movements of struggle for Indian Independence and the purpose of the seminar is to highlight the ignored aspects of this historic movement.

Gurpartap Singh, Punjabi University president of SSF, informed that Historian Dr. J. S. Grewal (former vice-chancellor of GNDU), International scholar Dr. Darshan Singh Tatla and Sikh intellectual S. Ajmer Singh would share their views during the seminar. Punjabi University vice-chancellor Dr. Jaspal Singh would be the chief guest of the seminar.
