Burhan Wani’s ability to recruit in to militancy from the grave will far outstrip his social media outreach: Omar Abdulla

Srinagar: Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minsiter on July 9 said that he heard Azadi slogans after many years.

“Aftr many yrs I hear slogans for “Azadi” resonate from the mosque in my uptown Srinagar locality. Kashmir’s disaffected got a new icon y’day”, Omar Abdullah (@abdullah_omar) posted on Twitter.

“Mark my words – Burhan’s ability to recruit in to militancy from the grave will far outstrip anything he could have done on social media”, Omar Abdullah (@abdullah_omar) said in another Tweet.

“For all Burhan’s social media activity I don’t recall any militancy incident attributed to him while I was in office. Not sure after that”, reads another Tweet by Omar Abdullah (@abdullah_omar).

“Alas Burhan isn’t the 1st to pick up the gun & won’t be the last”, read another Tweet by Omar Abdullah (@abdullah_omar).

It is notable that Burhan Wani, chief of operations of Hizbul Mujahideen, Indian-controlled Kashmir’s largest rebel group, was killed in fighting Friday after Indian troops, acting on a tip, cordoned a forested village in southern Kashmir’s Kokernag area, said Police Director-General K. Rajendra.

Indian troops fired on protesters in Kashmir on Saturday, killing at least [eight] persons as tens of thousands of people defied a curfew and participated in the funeral of a top rebel commander a day after he was killed by Indian forces in the disputed Himalayan region, notes Daily Mail.
