Chandighar/ Punjab (September 29, 2013): Shashi Kant, former DGP (Prisons) Punjab has written an open letter to the international community on durgs trade/abuse/problem in Punjab. The letter, a copy of which is available with the Sikh Siyasat News (SSN), reads as follows:

Open Letter to the International Community Friends, My name is Shashi Kant. I am an ex-police officer of the state of Punjab, India. My last posting was that of director general of police, the top post in the police services in India. Punjab is fast becoming the new drug capital of the world. As per an inadvertent disclosure of a politician, drugs (heroin) worth 60,000 crores of rupees (about 1000 kgs a month) has been coming into Punjab only from Amritsar border. Punjab has two more active borders as well, that is Gurdaspur and Ferozepur. This is besides the synthetic drugs like methamphetamine, which is also called meth or crystal, manufactured illegally and transported all over. It is said that some political leaders belonging to some political parties are the “big fish” involved in this trade. These drugs are finishing a huge percentage of population. About an entire generation of Punjab is likely to get lost, a milder and decent word for “death”. And no one is bothered. Will not say who is responsible or who is not. Of late official teams of a number of countries have met me for the exchange of ideas on this issue. Their interest is to ensure that these drugs do not reach their countries located in Europe and the North American countries. My motive is to save our people from dying. Please spread this message through the social media to all the corners of the world and all the countries, governments, international agencies as also the international community so that somehow our respective motives. My motive…. To save Punjab and Punjabies to start with and the Indians and the India[…], to end with, and motive of the international communities to save their own people and countries could be achieved. Both these issues are the two sides of the same coin so, please help in creating international awareness and hue and cry on this issue and to force concerned powers to stop the smuggling of drugs and consequent killings or the genocide of the young human race all over the world. Say no to drugs. Down with drug smugglers and their protectors. Save humanity. Shashi Kant Nasha Virodhi Manch (N.V.M.)
