Ajnala/Gurdaspur, Punjab (March 29, 2013): According to information available with Sikh Siyasat News (SSN) Akali Dal Panch Pardhani (ADPP) leader Bhai Baldev Singh Sirsa was arrested by Ajnala police earlier today.
His arrest was reportedly aimed at preventing his participation to the Shaheedi samagam held in the memory of Shaheed Jaspal Singh Gurdaspur at Village Chaur Sidhwan, near Gurdaspur.
Bhai Jaspal Singh was killed on March 29, 2012 when the Punjab police had opened fire on a group Sikhs holding a peaceful demonstration at Gurdaspur. Bhai Jaspal Singh was a B. Tech (first year) student at Beant College of Engineering and Technology, Gurdaspur.
According to information Bhai Baldev Singh Sirsa, who had been critical to Punjab government and current regime of Shiromani Gurudwara Prabhandak Committee (SGPC), led by ruling Badal Dal, was taken into custody by a police party led by DSP Tilak Raj.
Bhai Baldev Singh Sirsa told Sikh Siyasat News (SSN) that he was released in the evening, after the conclusion of Shaheedi Samagam that was being held at village Chaur Sidhwan in the memory of Shaheed Bhai Jaspal Singh Gurdaspur.
He said that DSP Tilak Raj warned him to stop criticizing the Punjab government and the SGPC.
It is notable that Bhai Baldev Singh Sirsa has been exposing certain misdeeds of SGPC during his public addresses – such as the publication of a controversial book “Sikh Itihas” (Sikh History) in Hindi.
