Chandigarh, Punjab (January 01, 2012): As per a news article published in Amritsar Times, a weekly newspaper, Akali Dal Panch Pardhani led by Bhai Daljit Singh Bittu shall not contest upcoming Punjab assembly elections.

It is notable that general elections are going to be held for all 117 assembly seats of Punjab on 30 January, 2012 and results shall be declared on 4 March.

Panch Pardhani is one of the parties of Punjab which focus issues of Sikhs and Punjab in relation to unitary structure of Indian state. Panch Pardhani was formed on November 30, 2007 after a split in Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar) led by former MP S. Simrajeet Singh Mann. After its’ formation Panch Pardhani contensted the only elections of SGPC held in September 2011 on limited number of seats and was able to secure one seat. Before SGPC elections Bhai Daljit Singh was arrested by Punjab police at the behest of Punjab Government led by Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal), also called Badal Dal. Since 2007 the main focus of Panch Pardhnai was to work among the Sikh masses of Punjab, build organizational set-up and making preparations for SGPC elections that were scheduled to be held in 2009 but were delayed for more than two years till 2011 by the Central Government of India in an apparent understanding to befit Badal Dal. Badal Dal is the major political party of Punjab that pretend to focus on Sikh issues but in reality it has totally collaborated with the Indian state, against the interests of the Sikh nation.

“Our party contested on 17 seats and supported two other candidates in last SGPC elections. Bhai Kulbir Singh Barapind of Panch Pardhani was elected as memebr of SGPC from Phillaur, and on majority of other seats the performance of our candidates was satisfactory to the larger extent” Surinder Singh Kishanpura, one of the leaders of Panch Pardhani is quoted to have said by Amritsar Times.

He declared that Panch Pardhani has decided not to contest these elections and our memebers are free to vote for deserving local candidates, if any. “However, as and when time comes, the party may contest other upcoming elections” Kishanpura is reported to have added.
